Polyvagal Theory
A deeper dive - Part Two
Wednesday 12 March 2025
9am - 12.30pm
Online via Zoom
We advise registrants to have completed the Befriending Your Nervous System - Polyvagal Theory Part 1 first.
Have you explored the Theory behind Polyvagal Theory – and are you now looking for how to take that into practice?
You might be a coach, counsellor or therapist, looking to apply polyvagal in a therapeutic or mental health context Or you might be a coach looking to assist people to regulate their state and step into flow and even greater performance. You might even be a teacher curious about how polyvagal theory shows up in the classroom or a manager, leader, supervisor, wondering how to identify polyvagal responses in the workplace.
This workshop will explore what we see in practice in each of the autonomic states AND what we see when people are stuck in ONE state. We will also explore some adaptations (fawn, feign, people pleasing) and we will discuss a range of interventions to assist people to create neurological flexibility, reinstating choice and control.
We know that if people do not feel safe, truly, deeply safe, they will close down: physically, emotionally, mentally, socially and spiritually.
This practical workshop will introduce approaches to a practical application of Polyvagal Theory and will share with you:
How different neurological states show up in practice in contexts such as therapy, learning environments and workplaces
Common Trauma responses and impacts on autonomic state
What you might expect if someone is ‘stuck’ in one familiar response
How to safely explore with clients their reality to enhance their own understanding
How to work with the client to extend flexibility and control
Learning Outcomes
After completing the workshop you will be able to:
have a deeper understanding of Polyvagal Theory and how it shows up in practice
explore complexity and adaptability of autonomic responses
recognise common traumatic responses in terms of polyvagal reaction
recognise a range of autonomic reactions in different contexts
encourage safe neurological flexibility for yourself and others
consider applications in your own field of work
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is aimed at healthcare professionals, coaches, counsellors and therapists who want to begin to explore and work with polyvagal theory.
Ideally you will have already done Part 1. You must already know the basics of polyvagal as Part 2 will not be covering the basics like the Ladder – the three levels – neurocpetion / coregulation / hierarchy etc.
NOTE - If your organisation is interested in having Suzanne present face-face to your team as a private workshop, please contact feona@grow.co.nz for more information.

What Past Participants Said
I thoroughly enjoyed Suzanne as a speaker and educator. She spoke from both her head and heart.
I used some of the practical tips the very next day with clients, felt great to be able to jump straight in.
It was informing, clearly presented and easy to understand. I came away with improved skill base and helpful ideas to use in the therapy room. A great presenter!
I enjoyed the mixture of theory and practical strategies and tools. I like having research based ideas and suggestions that I could take into my practice immediately.
