The Art of Giving and Receiving Feedback

A key driver for helping staff excel

Wednesday 19 February 2025
9am - 12.30pm
Online workshop

Feedback is a tool for continuous improvement, learning, and growth, benefiting both individuals and organisations.

In the workplace, the majority of staff want to do well, they want to grow and learn and offer meaningful contribution.  The workplace environment can change rapidly and it can be a challenge to keep up to date with the changes and to ensure you are giving the best of yourself in fast changing environments, where uncertainty is the norm.

Studies show that while 75% of employees believe that feedback is valuable and almost 90% report they want feedback, nearly one third have to wait over 3 months to receive it and another 30% never receive feedback at all.  Something is clearly blocking the effective giving of feedback.

The benefits are big, feedback can.......

  • provide insight into what’s working and what isn’t.

  • encourages personal and professional development.

  • boost morale and motivation, reinforcing good practices and behaviors.

  • foster open communication and transparency.

  • reveal issues or challenges that may not be immediately apparent.

  • help in building trust and strengthening relationships.

Research shows that meaningful feedback supports flexibility and growth and development on the job, improves performance, enhances confidence and assists with staff retention.  This workshop will explore some of the do’s and dont’s of giving feedback to optimise the benefits and eliminate the risks.  Using global research, the workshop will enable you to create a feedback plan you can implement immediately.

Learning Outcomes

This workshop will share the specific considerations when implementing a feedback framework in the workplace.  We will consider values, intentions and the emotional landscape that can impose challenges when giving and receiving feedback in practice.

  • To understand the research behind feedback: what enhances it and what can create problems

  • To reflect on your own workplace and identify the key components of a local feedback framework

  • To understand the potential obstacles to giving and receiving feedback

  • To appreciate the possible neurological reactions in those receiving feedback and why they might react negatively
