The conditions of the world economy, international trade, climate change and increasing discrepancy between rich and poor invite us all as citizens to reach for new solutions, new ways of thinking, and find new ways of working together to create better lives for all New Zealanders.
Amidst welfare reform, cutbacks and austerity measures … how do we continue to bring creativity, innovation and enterprise into making an impact on our most important issues?
SOCANZ 2012 – Doing Real Good is a chance to bring together the best of business and market thinking, the best of government resources and frameworks, and the best of the community and active citizenship — to explore how we can each make a better impact on the important social and environmental challenges of our times.
Over the past three years business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, community organisations, corporations and government have been testing out new ideas around social business, social capital, measuring social impact and how to succeed in starting up and commercialising social enterprises. This conference is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the experiences, the lessons, the achievements and the opportunities of this emerging national and international marketplace.
SOCANZ is a development of the renowned SOCAP Conferences held in the US where new thinking, innovation, and capital have intersected to address community challenges. We have adapted this to the New Zealand situation and we expect to host participants from across capital, philanthropy, community, corporate, education, government, SME’s, and local government sectors.
The conference combines short keynote sessions from exciting leading edge thinkers, followed by panels which will allow us all to get a close up feel for the way people from different sectors approach the strategic issues of our time. Over the two days, participants will also have the opportunity to follow tracks of more indepth workshops. You can see more information about the tracks here.

The programme
In this year of more welfare reform how do we shift our thinking to a society that Does Good Well?
How do we provide a whole range of tools that have nothing to do with welfare but rather invites us to think about a society that is thriving, generative and way beyond thinking it is dependent on welfare for wellbeing?
Over the past three years business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs, community organisations, corporations and government have been testing out new ideas around social business, social capital, measuring social impact and succeeding in starting up and commercialising social enterprise. At this conference you can immerse yourself in the experiences, the lessons, the achievements and the opportunities of this emerging national and international market place.
